Why This Is a Private-Pay Practice

I do not take insurance — this is a strictly private-pay practice. I work this way because it allows me to expand the depth of the work I do with families, free from the restrictions and limitations that insurance often places on care.

There are other family service models, such as Home and Community Treatment (HCT) and Multisystemic Therapy (MST), that are available for MaineCare (Medicaid) recipients. If the scope of your needs may be beyond what I am able to provide, I will make sure to refer you to a reputable provider.

If you have other providers using private insurance or Medicaid, you can still receive my services via private pay. If you have a home-based provider such as HCT or MST, I can provide consultation for your overall case — just know that with MST in your home, they hold the clinical lead in treatment.

If you hire me for individual therapy and have a home-based provider, at some point that provider may choose to reach out to me to collaborate on treatment approaches. That home-based provider should know that there are specific details, such as substance use treatment for a youth, that I cannot share.

If you hire me to provide in-home family therapy and there are already other providers in the home, regular collaboration is important so the treatment being provided stays clear, goal-directed, and not confusing.

Good Faith Estimate & Out-of-Network Billing:

Payment is due at the time of service via debit, credit, HSA, or FSA card. Itemized superbills are provided upon request for clients seeking out-of-network insurance reimbursement. Under the No Surprises Act, all self-pay clients receive a written Good Faith Estimate prior to treatment.

Value Benchmark & Higher-Level Care Comparison

Targeted in-home therapy ($1,250–$2,100/week) and intensive care coordination (bundled or $450/mo) stabilize youth at home, preventing severe escalation into costly institutional, medical, or detention settings:

  • State Juvenile Incarceration & Detention (Maine / Long Creek YDC): Secure state detention costs approximately $680–$950+ per day ($20,800–$29,000 per month), totaling $250,000–$350,000+ annually per youth without providing in-home systemic family restructuring (Maine DOC / Juvenile Justice Financial Audit Data).
  • Emergency Department Crisis Boarding: Pediatric ER crisis boarding costs between $1,500 and $3,500 per day in medical facilities without providing long-term home behavioral stabilization (American Academy of Pediatrics Boarding Study).
  • Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatric Hospitalization: Acute inpatient care averages $1,000–$2,500 per day ($15,000–$60,000 per 30-day stay) (AMFM Mental Health Care Cost Breakdown).
  • Residential Treatment Centers (RTC): Out-of-home adolescent residential care ranges from $10,000–$30,000+ per month out-of-pocket (Help Your Teens Residential Treatment Cost Guide).
  • Special Purpose Private Schools (Maine SPPS): The Maine Department of Education sets daily rates for approved special-purpose day treatment programs (e.g., Kittery Academy, Woodfords) at $250–$445+ per day, totaling $45,000–$80,000+ per school year (Maine Dept. of Education SPPS Rate Sheet).
Value Statement for Clients, Courts & Stakeholders:
In-home care (Tier 1 at $1,250/week: approximately $5,417/month; Tier 2 at $2,100/week: approximately $9,100/month, based on 52 weeks per year) acts as an effective circuit-breaker—preserving family unity, supporting in-district school attendance, ensuring juvenile probation compliance, and preventing tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in institutional care and state incarceration.
