LCSW Clinical Care with 20 Years Experience

Lizotte Clinical, LLC was established to bridge a critical gap in Maine's behavioral health system: providing high-intensity, specialized clinical care for high-risk adolescents and families without bureaucratic delays or restrictive agency models.

With 20 years in the field—including roughly 11 years supervising intensive community-based teams, juvenile justice interventions, and adolescent substance use programs across Maine—practice principal services combine rigorous clinical practice with real-world in-home stabilization. This work brings an acute understanding of the problems teenagers and families face around negative behavior, and how to treat it.

I have extensive experience working with youth involved in legal problems ranging from misdemeanors to gun violence and problem sexual behavior, including working within multidisciplinary teams. I have written court updates on treatment and testified to the course of treatment, and I regularly consult with attorneys to establish a care plan that resolves legal charges and helps families follow court conditions.

Clinical Modalities

My treatment approaches use a combination of:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Focuses on identifying, challenging, and restructuring unhelpful thought patterns and core beliefs to modify maladaptive behaviors and emotional responses.
  • Structural Family Therapy (SFT): Examines family subsystems, boundaries, and organizational hierarchies to unseat dysfunctional patterns and establish healthy familial structures.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): Identifies and works with sub-personalities (“parts”) within the individual’s mental system, aiming to integrate wounded parts under the leadership of the core Self.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI): A person-centered, directive communication style designed to resolve ambivalence and strengthen internal motivation for personal change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): A goal-directed approach that focuses on a client’s existing strengths, future aspirations, and immediate solutions rather than dwelling on past problems or history.
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): Centers on the premise that emotions are connected to human needs, helping clients identify, experience, explore, transform, and manage emotional states.
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Explores unconscious processes, early childhood experiences, and attachment patterns to gain insight into present-day behavior and relationship dynamics.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian): A humanistic approach relying on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness from the therapist to foster self-actualization and growth.
  • Behavioral Activation (BA): A structured behavioral treatment for depression that helps clients systematically increase engagement in rewarding, value-aligned daily activities.
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT): A time-limited treatment focusing on resolving interpersonal problems—such as grief, role transitions, or disputes—to relieve psychological distress.
Court-Involved & Collaborative Care

Coordinating treatment across the systems around a youth

Effective care for high-risk youth rarely happens in isolation. I regularly coordinate with the people and systems involved in a young person's life to keep treatment aligned and legal conditions on track:

  • Juvenile Community Corrections (JCCO)
  • Schools
  • Families & their natural supports
  • Case managers & other providers
  • Medical & medication managers
  • Courts & attorneys
  • Multidisciplinary teams
  • DHHS
  • Foster families
